How I Find Inspiration For My Stories

Introduction

Sometimes, it can be hard trying to decide what your next story will be about. Every I you have seems to be not good enough, or maybe you ran out of ideas completely. That’s alright. Let’s discuss today about how we can find inspiration when it seems like there’s nothing left to write about.

Over the years, I’ve dealt with a lot of writer’s block and have struggled before about what I wanted to write about next. Coming up with your next idea can sometimes be challenging. Not to worry, today I’ll discuss the ways that I have found inspiration in every day life.

Finding Inspiration In Daily Life

Just to put it out there, I’m not endorsing plagiarism or stealing other creator’s works. Finding inspiration in something and stealing are completely different things. Don’t steal!

Inspiration is woven into everyday life, often waiting to be uncovered in the most unexpected places. For me, it’s come from a wide range of sources, whether it’s through watching movies and TV shows, listening to podcasts, or even recalling dreams.

Movies and TV have played an obvious role in sparking my creativity. From compelling narratives to subtle, unassuming side characters, there’s so much to draw from. However, it’s important to remember that inspiration doesn’t mean copying—there’s a fine line between finding inspiration and outright stealing someone else’s ideas. Still, entertainment can be a helpful tool when deciding which tropes or broad narratives you want to explore.

One surprising source of inspiration for me has been podcasts, particularly true crime. While it may sound a bit morbid, some ideas for dark romances have been sparked by these stories. And just to be clear, I’m not suggesting that I turn someone’s real-life tragedy into some macabre fiction. Rather, the eerie atmosphere and psychological depth of true crime stories sometimes plant the seed for more complex, darker narratives in my writing.

It’s not just crime podcasts either—sometimes, I’ve found inspiration in the strangest places, like those ridiculous Reddit story clips on TikTok. You’d be surprised at how even a silly story can spark an idea for a character or plot twist.

Sometimes, it’s surprising to wake up and remember a dream that I had the night before that I think would make an interesting plot. This isn’t something that you can force yourself to do. Just do your best to remember that dream you had and write it down, so you can possibly turn it into something one day.

Conclusion

I know it’s hard to figure out what idea you want to write about next, and that’s okay. Just remember that inspiration can be found in every day life, just don’t overthink it too much. Plotting is your friend, and if an idea doesn’t work, don’t force it and try again.

Have a great day!
